How one little church made a big difference
by Jason Perry

Think your church is too small to tackle some of the world's biggest problems? Jason Perry once did too. That was before God used his 40-member Colorado church to take on a Goliath of a global problem. [more]

An Hour on Sunday
Nancy Beach (Zondervan, 2006)

As the director of programming and a teacher at Willow Creek Community Church in Barrington, Ill., Nancy Beach has been involved for years in putting together creative worship services that purposefully reach the community for Christ. In this book, Nancy shares some of her wisdom on building weekend worship experiences that bring together biblical teaching and art to ultimately lead people closer to God. The book creatively tackles subjects like building a service that reaches your target, preparing relevant sermons, leading a team of artists, evaluating your services, and more.

Please stop the aid! - In this interview with Der Spiegel, the Kenyan economist James Shikwati argues that Western aid to Africa is actually hurting the continent and preventing it from sustainable economic development. According to Pastor Rick, the article reinforces the P.E.A.C.E. Plan goal of assisting the poor – not by giving aid freely but by helping the poor create jobs and build their own economies.
Stem Cell: Beyond research, real hope - This video from the Family Research Council shares some of the differences between adult and embryonic stem cell research. According to the video, adult stem cell research has the most potential for good, although most of the media attention is focused on embryonic stem cells, which are obtained by destroying a human embryo.
New theaters for Facing the Giants - Facing the Giants will now be available in more theaters over the next few weeks. The new football and faith film created by a Georgia church has garnered national attention in its first few weeks in theaters. Check to see if one of the more than 440 theaters currently showing the film is near you. This could be an ideal outreach opportunity for your church.

"... Our creation, our salvation, and our stewardship are intrinsically bound together. Salvation is not just a matter of saving man's soul; it's about man as a whole. When we acknowledge the kingship of the Lord in redemption, it will of necessity affect all of life – our relationships and our stewardship of time, talents, gifts, opportunities, and money." - Ken Hemphill, Making Change (B & H Publishing Group, 2006)

"You aren't wealthy until you have something money can't buy." - Garth Brooks

In 2005, the personal savings rate as a percentage of disposable income in the United States was negative 0.5 percent, which was by far the lowest of any industrialized nation. In France, the savings rate was 11.6 percent. Germany figured in at 10.6 percent. Japan's rate measured 6.7 percent. - Source: Forbes magazine (Sept. 5, 2006)

"By sacrificing his body, Jesus created a new form of community – the Body of Christ around the world. There are people like my friends, stories like our stories, everywhere he is believed and obeyed. His sacrifice reconnects us to reality, to truth, to who God is, to a clear vision of who we are without him and who we are with him." - Kelly Monroe Kullberg, Finding God Beyond Harvard (InterVarsity, 2006)

"If God never became flesh, he could neither redeem us nor reveal to us his promise of eternal life. It is only by becoming like us that God can make us like him, restoring us in his image." - St. Irenaeus, 444 Surprising Quotes about Jesus (Bethany House, 2006)
