Some facts about fruit
by Rick Warren
Pastor, do you want to live a spiritually fruitful life? We all do. As ministry leaders, we want people to see the fruits of the Spirit in us, so they'll want them in their own lives. There's really no secret to developing love, joy, peace, patience, and all the other fruits of the Spirit. Just remember two things – your process in developing these fruits is a partnership with God and it takes time. [more]

How to keep your small groups involved in discipleship
by Steve Gladen

Unless you're diligent in making sure your small groups stay focused on discipleship, it can easily be forgotten. In this article, Saddleback Small Groups Pastor Steve Gladen gives seven tips that can help your small groups make discipleship a priority and not fall through the cracks. [more]

Real Christianity
William Wilberforce (revised and updated by Bob Beltz) (Regal, 2006)

This classic book has influenced countless believers over the past 200 years since it was published. The book focuses on what an authentic expression of the Christian faith looks like and how to avoid a watered down cultural Christian life that has no power. Updated and refreshed in today's language, this book might come in handy if you plan on building a sermon series around the new major motion picture release, Amazing Grace, based on the life of William Wilberforce.

"Clearly explain exactly how to respond to Christ. Too many invitations to salvation are misunderstood. The unchurched often have no idea what's going on." - Rick Warren

"My ambition has always been to share the Good News where the name of Christ has never been heard, rather than where a church has already been started by someone else." - Rom. 15:20 (NLT)

"Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act." - Ps. 37:7 (NLT)

Purpose Driven Small Groups Conference - The registration deadline for the Purpose Driven Small Groups Conference is Jan. 26. You'll still be able to sign up as a “walk in” after that, but the cost will be higher. This is one of the most practical conferences you'll ever attend. You'll leave with a plan to either start a new small group ministry in your church or revive the one you have.
Church Web site design checklist - This simple checklist can give you a general idea of how effective your church Web site might be. Just answer a series of questions about your site and this tool will tell you how you're doing.
Evangelicals for Darfur - Put your name on a petition asking the president to help end the genocide in Darfur. A whole host of evangelicals, across the political spectrum, have already signed.
Doug Fields in Indianapolis! - Doug Fields' Simply Youth Ministry and Group Publishing are co-sponsoring the National Youth Ministry Conference in Indianapolis, Feb. 9-12. It'll be a great opportunity to learn about building a Purpose Driven youth ministry from Saddleback's own pastor to students.
Sermons to go with new Amazing Grace movie - The new movie, Amazing Grace, on the life of William Wilberforce is a wonderful story of how God can use one man to change the world. If you'd like to use the movie in your weekend message planning, here are a few of Pastor Rick's messages on grace that may help you.

The parable of the cool ministry leader - Chris Forbes

There’s a brand new church with passion in rural America - Kay Adkins

Inner-city New Orleans church bigger after Katrina than before - Tobin Perry

How to prepare a short-term missions team - Scott Kirby

When your weaknesses are your strengths - Mary Southerland

"I know when apostolic passion has died in my heart. It happens when I don't spend my quiet time dreaming of the time when Jesus will be worshiped in languages that aren't yet heard in heaven. I know it's missing from my life when I sing about heaven, but live as if earth is my home. Apostolic passion is dead in my heart when I dream more about sports, toys, places to go and people to see, than I do about the nations worshiping Jesus." - Floyd Mclung, Perspectives on the World Christian Movement (William Carey Library, 1999)

"The Gospel says it will dumbfound the wise and be simple to a child. I think children get it because they haven't had time to get busy or to learn to be selfish. Life is a joy. Life is about exploration. The wise man tries to figure it out, but the child just enjoys it." - Will McGinnis, Audio Adrenaline, Hands & Feet (Regal, 2006)

"Enemy-occupied territory – that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you might say landed in disguise, and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage. When you go to church you are really listening-in to the secret wireless from our friends: that is why the enemy is so anxious to prevent us from going."  - C.S. Lewis, quote found in The Book of Worship (Bethany House, 2007)

A new report recently by Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. suggests U.S. businesses could lose as much as $810 million in lost productivity during the week leading up to the Feb. 4 Super Bowl. The report assumes employees will spend 10 minutes a day talking about the game, making bets, surfing the Internet, or shopping for a new television. That estimate does not include any losses that could come the day after the game when employees may discuss the game or the commercials or simply call in sick. - Reuters (Jan. 22, 2007)

“Great services reveal our possibilities, but small services reveal our consecration.” - George H. Morrison
