by Jon Ferguson

Facebook. Twitter. Plaxo. LinkedIn. The list goes on. At any time we can have instant access to thousands of people without making real connections. Lost and Found
Ed Stetzer, Richie Stanley, and Jason Hayes (B & H Books, 2009)

Unchurched young adults are more open to your church than you might have thought previously, according to Lost and Found. This book shows surprising research about the spiritual attitudes of unchurched 20-somethings. It will also introduce you to churches that are successfully reaching this tough-to-find demographic – and the principles they use to do so. If you’re looking for ways to help young adults in your community connect with God and your church, you’ll want to read this book.

"Each time you raise the standards for leadership, you bring everyone else in the church along a little bit. As the phrase goes, ‘A rising tide raises all the boats in the harbor.’" - Rick Warren

"Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisors." - Proverbs 11:14 (NLT)

"Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow…" - Hebrews 13:17 (NLT)

Pastors & health insurance - Churchsafety.com recently did this article on pastors and their health insurance needs. It covers some of the problems churches have insuring pastors and includes a few creative solutions that some churches have employed.
Reaching the Summit National Pastors’ Prayer Summit - This Aug. 4-6 conference is designed to help pastors lead corporate prayer services. According to the conference Website, attendees will “obtain the skills that build corporate dependence and God-focused praying.” The conference will be held at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Forth Worth, Texas.
Ed Stetzer’s blog - This is one of the more helpful ministry blogs you’ll find on the Web – full of ministry insight, cultural trends, and cutting-edge research. Stetzer is president of Lifeway Research; interim teaching pastor at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and an experienced author and church planter.
Fitclick.com - Here’s a new site that combines social networking with getting fit. On the site you have the ability to build a diet and a workout plan – or borrow ones from other members. You can also connect with others who are trying to get in shape. You can also find recipes (with calorie counts) on the site. It’s still in the Beta stage, so there may be bugs, but it’s an interesting concept.

“God is not calling us to win the world and, in the process, lose our families. But I have known those who so enshrined family life and were so protective of ‘quality time’ that the children never saw the kind of consuming love that made their parents’ faith attractive to them. Some have lost their children, not because they weren’t at their soccer games or didn’t take family vacations, but because they never transmitted a loyalty to Jesus that went deep enough to interrupt personal preferences.” - David Shibley

“Eternity is really long, especially near the end.” - Woody Allen

Forty eight percent of Americans say religion can answer all or most of the country’s problems, says Newsweek. According to the newsmagazine, that’s an historic low. For most of the 1990s and this decade, that figure never dropped below 58 percent - (Source: Newsweek, April 13, 2009)

“We think having faith means being convinced God exists in the same way we are convinced a chair exists. People who cannot be completely convinced of God’s existence think faith is impossible for them. Not so. People who doubt can have great faith because faith is something you do, not something you think. In fact, the greater your doubt, the more heroic your faith.” - Gordon Atkinson
